Does Kleki have a fill tool (paint bucket)?

Section titled “Does Kleki have a fill tool (paint bucket)?”

Yes. Click the arrow next to the tool icon to open more tools, then pick Paint Bucket, or press G. To fill line art without white edges, set Grow to 1 or more. See Paint Bucket.

Yes, two kinds:

  • To select part of your drawing freehand, use the Select Tool (L) with the Lasso shape.
  • To draw an outline and fill it with color, use the Chemy brush with Fill.

Does Kleki have a clipping mask and alpha lock?

Section titled “Does Kleki have a clipping mask and alpha lock?”

Yes, both. They let you color and shade inside a shape without going over its edges:

  • To paint only where a layer already has paint, turn on Lock Alpha (the padlock) in the brush tab. See Lock Alpha.
  • To shade on a separate layer, add a new layer above the shape and click Clipping Mask in the Layers panel. The new layer then only shows where the layer below has paint. See Clipping Mask.

Hold Alt and click the canvas, or click with the right mouse button. On a touch screen, tap the Eyedropper button next to the color preview, then tap the canvas. See Eyedropper.

Yes. After you’ve opened Kleki once, it also works without an internet connection. This help site needs a connection.

How do I draw straight lines and perfect circles?

How do I stop my hand from drawing on a touch screen?

Section titled “How do I stop my hand from drawing on a touch screen?”

When you draw with a stylus, Kleki also reacts to your hand touching the screen. Wear a drawing glove or a fingerless glove, so your hand can rest on the screen without being detected. See My Hand Causes Stray Marks or Zooming.

No. There is no autosave and no cloud storage. Save your drawing as a file regularly. Tab recovery can bring back a tab that closed by accident, but only for a while. See Saving Your Work.

The bottom layer works like paper, so erasing on it paints white. Any of these work:

  • Turn on Transparent Background in the Eraser settings, then erase the background.
  • Start a new image with a transparent background.
  • Draw on layers above the bottom layer, and hide the bottom layer before you save.
  • For line art on white paper, use To Alpha in the Edit tab.

Then save as PNG. JPG can’t store transparency.

Open the Edit tab:

  • To add space around your drawing or cut off its edges, click Crop/Extend. Drag in the preview, or enter the margins. Your drawing itself isn’t scaled.
  • To make the whole drawing bigger or smaller, click Resize. For pixel art, choose Pixelated.

See Canvas Size.

How many layers can I use? How big can my canvas be?

Section titled “How many layers can I use? How big can my canvas be?”

Up to 16 layers. The canvas can be up to 2048 × 2048 pixels. See Limits.

Yes. On small screens, hide the tool panel to get compact controls on the canvas. Use two fingers to move and zoom, tap with two fingers to undo, and tap with three fingers to redo. The Apple Pencil and other styluses support pressure.

Can I open my drawing in Photoshop, Krita, or Clip Studio Paint?

Section titled “Can I open my drawing in Photoshop, Krita, or Clip Studio Paint?”

Yes. Click the arrow next to the tool icon and pick Text, or press T. Click the canvas, type your text, and click Ok. You can choose the font, size, color, and an outline. See Text.
