Gradient
The gradient tool fades your primary color into transparency. To select it, press G twice: once for the Paint Bucket, then again for the Gradient. Drag on the canvas: the color is solid where you start and transparent where you let go.
- Linear: fades in one direction.
- Linear-Mirror: fades out to both sides of the start point.
- Radial: fades out in a circle around the start point.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Opacity | Sets how strong the color is where the gradient starts. |
| Reverse | Swaps the ends: transparent at the start, solid at the end. |
| Snap | Snaps the direction to 45° steps. You can also hold Shift while dragging. |
| Eraser | Fades out existing paint instead of adding color. |
| Lock Alpha | Only changes pixels that already have paint. See Lock Alpha. |
If something is selected, the gradient only fills the selection.
Gradient Between Two Colors
Section titled “Gradient Between Two Colors”The gradient always fades into transparency. To go from one color to another:
- Fill the layer with the second color: pick it and press Enter.
- Pick the first color and drag the gradient over it.
To keep the fill separate, do this on its own layer.
