Navigating the Canvas

Moving the view never changes your drawing. Use it freely to get close to details or to look at your drawing from a new angle.

  • Hold Space and drag, or drag with the middle mouse button.
  • Use the Hand Tool (H) and drag.
  • Press the arrow keys (← ↑ ↓ →).
  • On a touch screen, drag with two fingers.
  • Scroll the mouse wheel. Hold Shift for finer steps.
  • Hold Z and drag left or right.
  • Press + or -. Hold Shift for finer steps.
  • Pinch on a trackpad or touch screen.
  • Use the Zoom buttons in the tool row.
  • Hold R and drag. Add Shift to snap to 45° steps.
  • Hold R and press ← or → to rotate by 15°.
  • R + ↑ resets the rotation.
  • On a touch screen, twist with two fingers.

Press M, or Flip View in the Hand Tool tab, to mirror the view. Looking at your drawing mirrored is an easy way to spot mistakes in proportions. Your drawing itself isn’t flipped. To flip the actual image, use Flip in the Edit tab.

While the view is flipped, an icon at the bottom left of the canvas reminds you.

  • Home, or double-click with the Hand Tool, fits the whole image into the window. If it already fits, double-clicking zooms in 2× where you click.
  • On a touch screen, double-tap with one finger to do the same.
  • End resets the view to 100%.

Select the Hand Tool to see its tab. It has Reset and Fit, buttons to rotate the view, Flip View, and Inertia Scrolling, which lets the view keep gliding a little after you let go.

For pixel art, turn on Always pixelated zoom in Settings to see sharp pixels at every zoom level.
